Summer Intensive 2020
Have you made plans for August?
Then do not hesitate any longer and come dance with us, bring your Joyce of dance along and let's work.
I do believe that a summer intensive should be a potent supplement to every dancer's year-round training, and what best but to train in the French School of Dancing.
Celebrating 350 years of existence. The very first ballet school was established in France in 1661 by Louis XIV. French ballet is known for its elegance and refinement.
Considered to be one of the world's best dance schools. Its former pupils have won a record of 20 Benois de la Danse awards.😊
You missed the audition in March no worries, the French Academie of Ballet will accept students after receiving an application form along with 4 photographs.
FAB's summer intensive is designed for dancers serious about strengthening their technique and developing their artistry. Our detailed based classical ballet curriculum emphasizes individual attention. Every dancer is given the necessary personal instruction along with support and encouragement to enable them to return to their year-round program with marked improvement.
The French Academie of Balletʼs summer program’s curriculum is the same as our year-round program’s; one based on the French School of classical ballet. Our program is one that stresses precision in technique and elegance in artistry. This approach to ballet instruction has proven to produce strong, capable, employable dancers with the ability to adjust easily to different styles of ballet and choreography.
A fundamental component of the French Academie of Ballet's curriculum is consistency; consistency in faculty, consistency in teaching methodology and consistency in instruction.
Supplemental classes such as Contemporary, are important additions to the classical ballet curriculum.
Ballet Technique – Grounded in the French School of classical ballet, the emphasis is placed on precision and elegance. Advanced level dancers are expected to take all technique classes on pointe. Weekly “specialized” technique classes focus on mastering a specific movement.
Pointe – Classes focusing on technique en pointe are an important element of the girls’ curriculum.
Variations – Students learn excerpts from classical ballets.
Men's Class ( If enrollment permit) – Classes focusing on technique specific to the male ballet dancer are an important element of the boys’ curriculum.
Partnering ( If enrollment permit) – Focusing on balance and musicality, Dancers will learn the importance of communication and trust when dancing with a partner.
Contemporary – Classes focus on a wider range of movement than classical ballet and are an important supplement to the curriculum.
Our small, intimate class sizes enable us to provide each of our dancers the attention necessary for improvement. Our 2020 summer intensive class sizes will be in line with our year-round class sizes (approximately 20 dancers per level).
The core faculty for the summer intensive consists of our year-round faculty, Francois Perron, Bivi Kimura, and Juan Rodriguez.
A Typical Day
Summer Intensive (Monday, August 3– Friday, August 21).
In addition to daily technique, pointe/variation classes, and Men's class, student's weekly supplemental classes are contemporary, partnering, and dance history. Classes are offered either in the morning (9:30 am – 2:00 pm) or in the afternoon (2:00 pm – 6:30 pm). The dancer’s schedule is dependent on level placement.
The French Academie of Ballet’s 2019 Summer Intensive programs will take place at St. Veronica Creative Cultural Center located at 149 Christopher Street.
French Academie of Ballet does not provide supervised housing during the Summer Intensive. However, we can provide participants with a list of housing options that can be used as a resource when searching for accommodation in New York City. In some instances, we have found “host” families to house dancers during the summer intensive.
